The 3 Most Valuable 1960s Children’s Books: Are They In Your Library?
The 1960s had been popular mostly because of the well-celebrated life lived by President JFK. The era was dubbed as the calm state before the rage of the storm. And if you will look at the progress of the children’s books, you will also notice that the publication took a front seat in showing the venture that reveled between the experienced and the innocent manifestations.
If the present era was dominated by the popularity o Harry Potter, the ’60s also had its share of popularity and fame. It is with this reason that I have come up with the list of the 3 most popular and valuable children’s books during the hippies’ era. Read and find out if you have them in your collection too.
1. “Where The Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak. This was one book that hit the first number of the list of all the most known 1960s children’s books. This book is not just a collector’s item but also a hard to find and hard to own one. It has been so well-known that it received the Caldecott Medal Award.
2. “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstien. Since it has been published in 1964, this book had been done skillfully by the author and was considered timeless. It has stayed in the 5th position of the most sought-after and loved children’s books of the era. And at the present time, it is still showing how unique it still is.
3. And finally, Leo Leonni’s “Inch by Inch.” A wonderfully crafted book by Leonni, “Inch by Inch” possessed illustrations that still manifest a feeling that is still felt today; even after 40 years of circulating already.
It would worth noting that these 1960s books were done in such a way that they remain the famous things that they are today. They even won picturebook awards; and the illustrators also were recognized. The characters depicted in the books became so famous that they were given sequels and were used as models for the ideas on toys and costumes.
