Beautiful Hair Accessories

A dress can usually speak for itself but the hair is easily one of the most accessorised parts of the body and has been instrumental in making many looks either complete or taking them to the next level. 2011 has arrived and a new season of new hairstyles and accessories is upon the fashion world. The Spring/Summer shows have been and gone, leaving us with an impression of how the year’s fashion will develop.

Gold hair accessories are currently a hot favourite, with favourable showings with stars Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba for the MET Ball in which the versatile precious metal has been cutting a dash and looks all set to be a year-round fashion mainstay. In terms of styling, gold lends itself incredibly well to creating an exotic look, or for the empress look that Isabele Lucas was able to pull off at the same occasion as Alba and Hudson.

Hats are finally back in force, and have been playing a tricky game with the fashion world for years but seem to be strong for 2011. The Kate effect has resonated within the Royal Ascot with the fascinator, and has seemingly spread into the fashion world. Victoria Beckham tried to popularise the hat a few years ago with a black design, but was unsuccessful. It seems that the world is finally ready now, though, for an abstract hat.

It’s not all about hats for headgear, though, as the Dolce & Gabana fashion show proved when they rode the wave of contemporary fashion to show the stylish yet amazingly practical Kaftan bandanna. The headscarf can be used to create many styles, including plaiting within the hair to create striking patterns of colours using the hair colour. It harks back to the free-spirited late 70′s and 80′s, and also catches some cool factor for the retro element.

It’s the weddings that will be influencing some of the head accessory market as celebs decide what to wear to the occasion and fans watch them hawkishly to see who will be turning out in what. Tips say that feminine accessories will be all the rage, such as design-bows and diamonds.

Past the summer and into the latter half of the year, Fascinators will be hitting mainstream markets proper with the Jessica McClintock merger with Magid Handbags and Accessories looking like a sign of things to come as the hat comes into its own.

So this year seems to be a surprise return of classical femininity with the detail-bow, headscarf, and diamonds becoming the trends of the year. The Fascinator adds a needed abstract element to the styles of 2011, and gold will be the utilitarian metal of choice for going through summer and autumn without ditching styles or colours just to keep in line with changing jewellery trends. On the flip side, hair sculpting has become semi-popular, perhaps because of Lady Gaga, and may be the echoes of what’s to come for 2012.

The year will be an interesting one indeed judging from what’s been seen so far, with many influences such as the Kate Effect and the Kardashian wedding to keep an eye on as far as second-guessing the direction of fashion. Femininity seems to be a strong card being played with hair accessories at the moment but it may well be that the Kaftan bandanna with its incredible versatility that reigns supreme by the end of the year.

Cheryl Cole Fashion Icon

As one of the most prominent singing and fashion icons of the now, Cheryl Cole has gone from council estate girl to fashion superstar with legions of fans and an influence over her peers that has turned her into a trend-setter. The coverage she enjoyed while working on the panel for the X-Factor both in the UK and in the US has done wonders for her publicity, and she is now one of the most recognised and sought-after celebrities on the planet.

The singer shot to fame as the lead singer of the manufactured girl band ‘Girls Aloud’, which was formed with the conclusion of Popstars the Rivals, on which Cheryl Cole was a part. After achieving worldwide success with the band, she went on to produce her own number one albums as a solo performer and has been a regular headliner both with the press and in fashion circles, always causing a stir with her style and fiery temper.

This spot in the limelight of reality TV, though, has come to an end for now as Cole was axed in favour of Nicole Sherzinger but the singer and fashion mogul has bounced back to defy her critics and is still setting fashion trends even with her fashion disasters with Jessica Alba emulating her outrageous purple flares & orange blouse combo for the CFDA Awards.

Cheryl Cole, like many glamour models and fashion icons, would not be complete without her jewellery and accessories. She combated malaria to bring her designer range of rings, named after her hit single ‘Promise This’, to the shelves and has done good business for jewellers Grisogono as a result. Her instantly recognisable choice in accessories and jewels has been often copied, but never to the exact level that Cole manages to pull it off at.

It is impossible to talk about the fashion of Cheryl Cole, though, without mentioning her great love for jewellery and accessories which she uses to complete her many looks. Not even the dangerous disease malaria could stop her from turning out for expert jewellers Grisogono to launch a designer range of rings entitled ‘Promise’ in 2010. Perhaps a sign of things to come when Cole sensationally took back cheating footballer Ashley Cole, making him promise to play his games at home from now on.

The jewellery of Cheryl Cole reflects Cheryl Cole, as you might expect. She can switch from glamorous and elegant pieces to fun and daring ones, and is not adverse to wearing items such as ruby-skull rings, heavy necklaces, and other bits of bling. She will veer more toward accentuating her natural charm with subtle pieces, but sometimes she likes to go overboard and just have fun.

In its place, Cole has adopted the increasingly popular jewellery brand Bibi Bijoux showing that her recent break-up hasn’t impacted on her fashion-sense at least. Consisting of charms and bangles, styled with skulls of all things, they’re set to be the knock-out must-have of the summer and now that Cole has been seen wearing them mid-June it’s almost a certainty to be a hit in wider circles.

It’s been a roller-coaster ride for the singer in the last year or two, with plenty of ups and downs, but we can rely on this singer to take advantage of her mixed fortunes in remaining in the public eye and continuing to wow us with her daring fashion and clever use of jewellery to catch the photographer eye. Her singing career is going strong, there is a possibility of Girls Aloud resuming, and she has enough pull with fashion, jewellers, and cosmetic brands that a new designer range or endorsement deal is inevitable. Her birthday has just came and been, and for it she has been given the present of having a second chance to make her relationship with Ashley Cole work; let’s wish her all the best.

J-Lo Style Icon

Well-known both in Hollywood and on the music circuit, Jennifer ‘J-Lo’ Lopez has been wowing audiences in both theatres and on the music scene with her glamorous looks and superb sense of style. In 2003, J-Lo brought her sense of fashion to the people by launching her own line of clothes and accessories called ‘JLO’ and despite some controversy the actress and singer has proved a major hit, leading to other equally popular lines such as Sweetface and Justsweet, all of which have caused a regular stir on New York’s fashion scene.

Having recently completed a stint on American Idol, the popular singer has been keeping very busy over the summer and has been touring to promote her new album while also launching the 2011 summer line of Justsweet, a brand aimed at those wishing to become more daring in their dress while also enjoying glamour and chic, making statements about confidence and boldness for the wearer and bringing out their best features.

That’s not to say that J-Lo can’t create a stir on her own, however. June saw the Hispanic singer and actress dropping jaws at the Children’s Benefit Concert as she swept into the event in a red cocktail dress made of satin with a stylish mantle and tied-back Governess hair to reveal her naturally beautiful face, made even more stunning by a compliment of diamond jewellery; her favourite rock and one that certainly suits her.

There’s a cheeky side to Lopez too, and she is never shy to show it once in a while as she demonstrated when glamming up in hoodie and tracksuits while in London for the filming of ‘So You Think You Can Dance UK’, sporting also a cheeky grin to show off pearly whites that would rival the crystal sparkle of her rings and earrings at the Children’s Benefit. And it was Paris who got a taste of her bolder side, when she embarked from her hotel with only a white tuxedo jacket and shades to preserve her modesty.

As we’ve seen again and again, as well as it being a necessity for the Silver Screen, J-Lo is able to show the many sides of her complex personality through a variety of many styles that she always seems to pull off without a hitch. The secret, perhaps, lies in her passion for jewellery and the expertise this has created in her for bringing any look that little extra bit of sparkle. Softness is the name of J-Lo’s jewellery game and she will wear pieces to compliment her, not the other way round, and this is one of the guiding principles that she says is at the heart of Justsweet’s jewellery line.

Such is her mastery with jewels that J-Lo has recently secured a promotion contract for the Spanish company TOUS, that specialises in J-Lo’s preferred rock; the diamond. As if born to represent such pieces, she began photo-shoots in the Spring and her diversity in being able to sport many different looks made the affair a resounding success. All girls love diamonds was the line said J-Lo herself when asked about the shoot and from the look of things, diamonds love her as well.

Literally a tour de force who excels and is admired in every circle she tries her hand, from singing to acting and as a fashion icon and designer, J-Lo is a living masterclass in how to dress and impress using a range of different styles with boldness being the main theme and trusting to the natural beauty of the features by having jewellery and accessories be the compliment to them, rather than the other way round.

What lies ahead for J-Lo is certainly more success on the music circuit as her music career shows little sign of slowing. Her involvement with the fashion trade continues to impress as her designer lines and strong showing with TOUS will undoubtedly lead to more work and keep her in the public eye for many a year to come. Now in her forties, the curtain must come down for J-Lo sooner or later but with sixty being the new forty, and with two kids barely slowing this fashion heavyweight down, we may perhaps be ‘stuck’ with J-Lo and her superb talents and looks for a little while longer.
