A Few Ideas For Couples Costumes
For costume and themed parties, many couples choose to coordinate their costumes. You can get creative and have a lot of fun with couples oufits for any costume party, whether it’s Halloween time or not. Here are a few ideas and tips regarding costumes tailored for couples and pairs.
Emulating famous couples is a fun and creative costume idea. You’re sure to be the hit of the Halloween party and receive a lot of compliments (and maybe laughs), by dressing as a historical, royal or celebrity couple. Maybe there’s a couple that one or both of you resemble. Or someone that you admire, or conversely, find amusing. Be careful when considering pop culture icons or couples involved in current events as you most likely won’t be the only party goers dressed as the pair.
A fun twist on this is to switch costumes, with the man dressing as the female and the woman dressing as the male. Even couples that aren’t specific or famous work well with this idea. For instance, the woman could dress as a football player, while the man wears a cheerleading uniform. If you can find something that has a connection to the two of you, it will be even funnier to people who know you well.
Another sure fire and humorous hit is connected outfits. Costumes like horses and other animals, in which the couple is essentially sharing the same costume are very popular. If you can sew and have enough time, you can make a costume like this yourself. Fortunately for those who aren’t handy with a sewing machine, many two-person outfits can be purchased at costume shops.
Going as a ventriloquist act is another great idea for couples. One person dresses as the dummy by wearing a small bow tie and painting straight lines on either side of their mouth. The other, wearing a buttoned jacket and similar bow tie, is the dummy’s handler. You could even work out a short routine to perform at the party. The ventriloquist could drink a glass of water while the dummy sings, or the dummy could cleverly insult the intelligence of its handler. You’ll be sure to get lots of laughs.
With a matching pair of black and white striped jumpsuits and a plastic toy chain, you and a friend could attend the costume party as a pair of escaped convicts. Online or physical costume shops will have the convict jumpsuits. The plastic chain can be made, if a suitable can’t be bought, out of paper or even rope.
Spandex, capes, and other silly items all make great accessories for costumes for wrestling duos. Go as a tag team by wearing these items. Bring metal folding chairs and other wrestling objects to carry around with you. You could entertain your fellow party guests by choreographing a few short wrestling matches.
Superheroes and sidekicks also make great costumes for pairs. Like with the wrestlers costumes, a few pairs of spandex and capes are really all that is needed. You could rent or buy the costumes, or to save some money, you could create your very own superhero characters on your own. Small plastic water guns and homemade nun chucks are easy and affordable crime fighting tools.
In conclusion, with just a little thought and effort, you and your friend or partner should be able to come up with a few fun couples costumes. Allow plenty of time before the party or Halloween event to prepare. When making the final choice about costumes, select an idea that is fun and doable. If the idea seems fun to you, it will be a big hit at the party, whether you go as a crime fighting duo, ventriloquist and dummy or anything else you might dream up.
