Niagara Falls Holiday Tips

Try Niagara Falls vacations for a unique two-country destination. Whether visiting the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls of Niagara Falls, New York, or crossing the Canadian border and viewing Horseshoe Falls in Ontario, there is more than enough natural beauty and attractions to make lifetime memories.

At a distance of just 17 miles from Buffalo, New York lies the Niagara Falls State Park. This park offers many things to do in Niagara Falls and has visits to view the American Falls and the Bridal Veil falls. The Prospect Point Park offers many innovative ways to admire the beauty of these locales. Walkways and observation towers give visitors a chance to enjoy brilliant views and the “Maid of the Mist”, even takes tourists into the heart of the rapids.

Goat Island, which can be reached by both pedestrian and automobile traffic, offers views of the Falls. Visitors can take the elevator at Cave of the Winds and hike beneath Bridal Veil Falls. There is also a walking path that allows visitors to view the rapids, the gorge, the Niagara River, and the Falls. For a guided journey of the American Falls and Goat Island, consider the Niagara Scenic Trolley. For a bird’s eye’ view of the Falls, try out a helicopter ride. To learn more about the history of the Falls and Gorge, look no further than the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center.

If you don’t cross the border to visit Ontario you will miss out on some of the best things to do in Niagara Falls. There are three bridges which link Niagara Falls in New York to Niagara Falls at Ontario. For the best view of the falls choose The Rainbow Bridge. The oldest among the three is the Whirlpool Rapids and the latest addition is the Lewiston-Queenstown Bridge.

The section of the falls at Ontario is about 75 miles from Toronto, and is home to Horseshoe Falls. This breathtaking waterscape has a terrifying 175 foot drop to the bottom. At this it stands almost twice as tall as the American Falls. Colored floodlights are used to host an impromptu light show on the falls which can only be believed when seen.

As with New York, there are numerous places at which you can view the Falls. Queen Victoria Park is one such place where a great view of both the American Falls and Horseshoe Falls is offered. There are underground walkways and observation rooms, to create the illusion of standing under the Falls. Then, there is the Skylon Tower that offers a spectacular view of the Falls, and even Toronto on good days. There are cable cars to allow visitors to go over the Whirlpool with the alternative being the “Journey Behind the Falls” which is an observation deck at the bottom of the Falls.

Just steps away from the Falls are the many restaurants, hotels, and family-friendly attractions located in the Fallsview Tourist Area and Clifton Hill. There are four wax museums: Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks, Movieland Wax Museum of the Stars, Criminals Hall of Fame Wax Museum, and Rock Legends Wax Museum. The area also has three mini-golf courses, five haunted houses, three arcades, and numerous shopping opportunities.

So, as you can see, Niagara Falls tourism is for one and all to enjoy and very well worth the time and money.
